Less: Cost of Improvement(COI)      xxx
Capital Gain     xxxx

In case Long term Capital asset COA and COI should be indexed

Indexed COA

INDEXED COST OF ACQUISITION     = COA*CII FOR THE YEAR OF TRANSFER
CII FOR THE FIRST  YEAR IN WHICH ASSET WAS HELD BY ASSESSEE 0R FOR YEAR 2001-02 , WHICH EVER IS LATER

 

Indexed COI

INDEXED COST OF IMPROVEMENT   = COA*CII FOR THE YEAR OF TRANSFER
CII FOR IN THE  YEAR IN WHICH THE IMPROVEMENT TO THE ASSET TOOK PLACE

 

Notes 

1. If asset acquired before 01/04/2001 then cost of acquisition is

  • Actual Cost  (or)
  • Fair market value as on 01/04/2001

          Which ever is higher

2. If improvement is done before 01/04/2001 , it should be ignore.
